Product Description
With Owls as such a hot classroom theme, this book written Farley Mowat is a great way to introduce students to novel studies. I read this book to the class a chapter at a time and students are asked to answer questions involving making connections, predictions, asking questions, inferencing, compare and contrasting and visualizing.

At the end of two chapters a rubric is provided for students to self reflect on their work. Did their sentences start with capitals and end with periods? Did they write in a complete sentence? Did they use spelling tools like our word wall and word lists?

By the end of the unit, when setting up guided reading groups, students will have a clear expectation of what you expect and you will have an easy assessment tool to show parents about students writing.
