This rubric contains one (1) student-friendly Prose Constructed Response (PCR) rubrics for narrative writing.
Prose Constructed Responses are on-demand writing pieces that are crafted in response to text, or prose. Per the CCSS, narrative elements in grades 3-5 may include: establishing a situation, organizing a logical event sequence, describing scenes, objects or people, developing characters personalities, and using dialogue as appropriate.
This rubric use the same language as those developed by PARCC for grades 3-4-5; this allows students to become familiar with this language for the assessments.
In part one, each construct is measured on a 3-point scale, aligned with PARCC. Each indicator is written in student-friendly terminology intended to assist students reflect upon their strengths and weaknesses in meaningful ways.
In part two, Performance Level Descriptors are modeled after the PARCC 5-point system. Also written in student-friendly terminology, students can easily gauge their overall performance and track their progression.
