This essay aligns with the PRACTICE PARCC Narrative PBA for 7th grade.
To teach this lesson, we first read "The Fast and the Furriest" passage from the 7th grade PARCC practice test. Then, we brainstormed what we knew about the characters' likes and dislikes.
I split the students into teams, and they had to develop a plot lie to finish the story, remaining true to the characters' personalities and motivations. Then, each group had to "pitch" their plot to the class.
As a class, we voted on the best plot continuation and I wrote a model essay using the winning plot.
the next day, students completed this guided annotation with my model essay.
