Compare and Contrast Two Non-Fiction Texts
Students need to be aware that when they are comparing texts they are looking for similarities. Words like: same, also, both, too, like, similar, have in common, and as well as can be used to describe the ways they are alike.
When they are contrasting texts, they are describing the differences between texts. Words like: but, yet, although, unlike, while, unless, instead, even though, on the other hand, and different can be used to describe the differences.
Students will be asked to read two non-fiction texts. They will then need to fill out a text organizer and use it to complete an essay. They will need to write about the similarities and differences about both texts.
Compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented in two texts on the same topic.
There are four Non-Fiction Texts included about African American Women that made a difference in the history of our country: Bessie Coleman, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks
