Here is the third in a series of five PARCC practice templates resources designed to support students in gaining a deeper understanding of fiction reading. Students will engage and use the PARCC language and format.
"The passage is NOT included with this resource."
Templates encourage students to supply the information needed and to exchange papers with one another. These templates can be used independently or in small group settings.
Can be used with any fiction piece of literature. Simply supply students or groups with a short passage from a novel, short story, etc. and have students delve into the text.
Working with these types of exercises requires a certain degree of deductive reasoning.
Templates can be used as a homework assignment, a quiz, class instruction, general practice, group engagement, or as a method of collecting data.
However, another way to use this resource is for the teacher to fill in assessment ideas based on the current piece of literature students are reading.
Included is one sample assessment based on a passage from an excerpted longer work titled "Zlateh the Goat."
A copy of the passage will be sent to buyers upon request or you may locate the passage on your own.
That is the only part students are reading in order to complete this assessment. However, you may wish to have students read the entire piece and generate more questions.
In either case, templates will provide extra practice since this resource provides a dual purpose to bring the student and teacher closer to the text.
A suggested Answer Key is included. Please download for free if you have purchased this resource.
Obviously, the more questions they practice answering the better. Why? Because there is a preponderance of cross referencing responses; and kids are not used to it. Therefore, a degree of experience will bolster their ability to read with a critical eye.
Product contains "5 challenging slides" with Part A and B which will surely ignite discussions.
Here's a great product,"Prose Constructed Response for Narrative Writing Tasks" to help students practice the PARCC style and for teachers to create a few questions from these passages too.
