P.A.W.S. stands for Problem, Analyze, Work it Out, and Solve.
This strategy uses a file folder to break down a word problem into manageable steps to help your students find the answer. They will read the problem, analyze the problem (underline key words, etc…), Work it out (encouraged to show their work!), and then solve and check to make sure it makes sense. The folder helps them to focus on each step by opening up flaps for each letter in the acronym.
There are 20 word problems included, but I have also made this a .zip file so I could include an editable powerpoint file so you are able to create your own word problems if you need more. The word problems fit perfectly under the file folder flaps!
I have also included resources to help you create a bulletin board when you are teaching your students the P.A.W.S. acronym, as well as reminders of key words your students will need to look for when in the analyzing step of solving their word problems!
