used as a school-wide behavior initiative (great for tier 1 of RtI).

Why does it work? The main motivator for MOST student behavior is attention (peer or adult). This system provides us with an opportunity to organically recognize positive behaviors and the incentive is meaningful because it will not only give students adult attention BUT also the attention of their peers (unlike typical token reward systems). This system builds on a sense of community and team spirit within the classroom. Class Cash can be misleading, and some feel that this is just a system to recognize the entire class- NOT the case. One major advantage is that teachers no longer need to maintain a treasure chest or worry about tracking individual points for students. Parents and administrators love it because it builds on intrinsic motivation instead of taking away from it. It’s a win-win for everyone!
