Product Description

This student-driven inquiry examines the imperialism in India and China. It is framed by the following "driving" questions (these drive all aspects of the investigation):

  • How does imperialism impact indigenous populations?
  • Is colonization always a 'bad' thing?

A framework is provided to guide students as they explore the India and China BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER colonization. Besides the class text, an optional research bank (web links) is provided to aid students in their inquiry.

Ultimately, I broke students up into groups of 3 for this project and assigned them either India or China. Once complete, I held a series of class debates using a fishbowl strategy. The students who examined China were able to observe and reflect on the India debates, and vice-versa. This was my way of breaking up the basic jigsaw activities that we rely on in class so often.
