Split your class into four groups. Each group will focus on one aspect of Global Warming/ Climate Change:
Causes-- [pollution/greenhouse gases emitted by humans; carbon dioxide, methane, fossil fuels, factories, vehicle emissions, deforestation, etc.]
Effects—[rising temperatures, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, wacky weather patterns, extinction of animal/plant species, spread of disease, change in ecosystems, coral reefs, etc.]
Science – [Greenhouse Effect, graphs of Earth’s past climate, how do scientists measure CO2 in the air – ppm; why is it a problem?]
Solutions— [renewable energy: solar panels, wind turbines, hydropower, nuclear energy, geothermal energy, biofuels, carbon sequestration, increasing forestlands, sustainability, etc…]
As a result of this project SWBAT:
• List and understand the causes and effects of global warming
• Explain the science behind climate change and how the greenhouse effect works
• Develop solutions to global warming for humanity.
This outlines the project for everyone, includes guidelines and detailed rubrics for the project and the presentation (if desired). It also includes resources for students to start their research and questions that need to be answered.
