The Restaurant Entrepreneurship Project is still my all-time most favorite project that I have ever used in my classes. In this project, high school or middle school Family and Consumer Sciences students will explore the requirements for childhood nutrition by designing their own family-oriented, kid-friendly restaurant that includes a nutritionally well-balanced menu for children from ages 3-12. This project, designed for teams of up to six people is ideal for any student exploring lifespan nutrition. The Restaurant Entrepreneurship Project can easily be adapted to multiple FCCLA STAR Events Competitions including Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation and the Entrepreneurship competitions. The project is designed to take approximately eight, one-hour class periods to create and present.
The Restaurant Entrepreneurship Project includes a teachers information packet and a student packet (3 pages each). See the preview for a copy of the teachers information packet. The student packet includes a project overview with instructions, a rubric, and role descriptions. Students will enjoy this opportunity to explore nutrition, entrepreneurship, and marketing with a little bit of design thrown it.
