PDL's Barnyard Equivalent Fraction Race Game for Cuisenaire® Rods has two fraction activities that allow student to gain fluency in equivalent fractions. These activities are a platform for students to discover equivalent fractions. These activities are great in large groups, small groups or individually.
The first activity is a racing game designed to be used with Cuisenaire® Rods. During the racing game, the rules provide the student opportunity to observe when certain fractions are equivalent to others. The game provides many opportunities for discovery and should be played many times before moving onto the next activity.
The second activity allows the student to use what he/she has discovered about equivalency and apply that understanding. Successful discovery of fraction equivalency in the first activity will provide for success in the second activity. If the student struggles to provide the correct amount of hay to the right animal, have the child return to the first activity.
