This lesson is primarily directed toward 3rd-5th grade students, but can be modified for K-2nd or 6th-8th. This activity can be used as a cross-curricular lesson for Spelling, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.
The students are placed in teams (3-4 students or however many you believe to be appropriate). The teacher will supply the students with scooter boards, paper, and pencils. The object of the activity is for the students to roll on the scooter board to an area in which the Scrabble letters are face down. The student on the scooter board will get a select number of letters and ride back to his or her group. Each group will get a select number of letters to try to make as many words as possible. The teacher can modify the lesson to make complete sentences, the students to find Spelling words, answer Science questions to review for a test, etc.
