You can also combine these cards with Phase 1 cards for single consonant beginnings and cater for a wider range of learners. The inclusion of the WORD BANKS ensures the players are using real words although they are still practising blending with non-words. You can make this an independent activity with the WORD BANKS as students check on each other.
I use this game for those students who still have difficulty with phonemic awareness. I find the game format adds the fun element that a worksheet doesn't. They get that constant exposure that they need and keep coming back for more because it's a game and because it's fun.
You can just choose the cards that you want your students to blend and you can add your own words to the WORD BANKS as I have left spaces for just that possibility (student names, for instance).
