I developed this game so long ago it makes me dizzy to remember, but it would have been to consolidate phonemic and blending skills in the early years. Now I specialise in intervention and I target specific skills using this game. Although it has been revised many times, it serves the same purpose to consolidate vital skills in early reading development.
Its value lies in its simplicity and the ability to target skills. You can mix and match the beginning and ending cards as they are all uniform. I print them in different colours now and it makes the game quicker.
The WORD BANK encourages independence and is especially helpful if you add it to a Literacy Centre after your intervention group have learned to play. You will find I have purposefully eliminated some words, but there are spaces if you wish to add your own.
My Letter, Sounds and Blending screener can help you identify the skill deficits to target and you will see steady progress.
