This bundle contains:
- Quick Literacy Placement Screen

--- 45 cards with picture and word but vowel spaces are blank (see PREVIEW)
- 2 DONKEY Games (22 matching pairs in each game) + DIRECTIONS
- 13 A4 Posters (5 Short Vowels, 7 Long Vowels, 1 with both for discrimination)
You can use these sets in so many ways. They are ideal for intervention for those students who are still having trouble discriminating between vowel sounds. You can administer the Quick Literacy Placement Screen to the whole class and quickly identify your ability groups. This is one of the ways I use the SORT IT cards in my sessions to develop letters/sound skills:
1. Match word and picture cards
2. Match word and missing vowels cards
3. Write the missing vowels
4. Write the word on the picture only cards
I also use them for auditory discrimination of vowel sounds. I have made little Post Boxes. I write the vowel digraph on the front of the box and the student 'posts' the card in the appropriate box. I find this activity ideal when I need to target discrimination of short and vowel sounds in particular. Use two boxes at first, then extend the range as mastery progresses. The multi-sensory approach of 'posting' plus saying and hearing the sound as well as seeing the letters is valuable. You can mix the Phase 1 set with this set if you need to target this skill.
You can consolidate with the DONKEY Card Games. Put them in a Literacy Centre for inclusivity. Your intervention group can teach the rest of the class how to play. The PREVIEW has a list of all the words used.
The Phase 1 set is uniform with Phase 2, so you can mix and match to target skill deficits for faster progress.
I have included the A4 Posters for extra scaffolding for those who need it.
