This package contains 5 games. Each game has 45 word cards as well as nine SWITCH cards and nine PICK UP 2 cards.
For the full list of words used see the WORD LIST in PREVIEW to see if it suits your needs. I have avoided the spelling anomalies with Australian and American spelling as much as I can, but you can check this easily by viewing the WORD LISTS.
At this level the games contain complex letter clusters and I find my intervention groups usually need lots of practice to master them. That's just what this game does. I use it regularly and they love it. It's lots of fun and it has a strategy element that keeps them wanting to play again and again.
All the game cards are uniform so you can mix them up to target skill deficits and that way you are also differentiating. It can be added to a Literacy Centre or used in Reading Groups.
I particularly like it because it develops phonemic awareness and you see players subvocalising the parts of the word that are in red. This is what you want them to do as they are matching the sound to the letters in red and then generalising to the rest of the words in that set. As they are developing this phonemic ability they are also developing fluency in word recognition. The more they play, the more automatic their responses become. I send this game home for homework when I can because it's the repetition that builds automaticity. Their skill set increases exponentially and you will see progress in reading.
There is a freebie at Phase 5 for you to try and I have included Phase 5 in other bundles if you need to differentiate even further.
