In order to allow students to concentrate fully on learning the consonants and their various combinations, the only vowels used in the exercises are the short vowels.
Exercise 1 simply revises the short vowel sounds before moving on to the consonants.
Exercise 2 gives practice in using the consonants, f, n, s and t.
As well as the written phonic patterns exercise, there are slides to give thorough practice with consonant-vowel-consonant words.
Students who may have been struggling with reading get an understanding of how phonics works. Others gain in reading fluency. All may benefit from improved spelling skills.
If you like these exercises, there are 14 exercises in Phonic Patterns 1, covering all consonant combinations from single consonants (e.g. 'met') to triple consonants (e.g. 'stretch').....available in my store - Mrs Attwooll's Old Tricks.
