WHAT Makes This Program Special?
My goal with the “Elementary Elephant Phonics Curriculum” is to make learning how to read (phonics style) FUN!!!! I have included lesson plans which I myself have used and currently use in my classroom. My third graders looooove the activities and games the most. I pick and choose some of the activities for my fifth graders because they are little harder to please! They enjoy the goofy stories and games too! This program is also very easy to use. Simply print it all out and put it in a binder (in page protectors) and this will be your master “book.” Then make copies a few weeks in advance of the sheets that you want copies for. You can actually get by without making any copies, as well-just follow the plans and you will see! Also, there is just a maximum of 5 minutes of prep. time/day. That’s it! Each lesson takes from 15-25 minutes per day as well. It’s to your discretion.
WHY Should I Use This Program?
The “Elementary Elephant Phonics Curriculum” was created to meet a need for my students, in my own classroom and I am confident it will also meet a need in your classroom too! Many existing curriculums could not address the needs of my students who read at 1-2 years below their same age/grade peers. I am sure you may be in the same boat and that is why you are researching this material. In the past (and this school year as well) students came to me with good comprehension skills from stories they listened to in class, however, they were not able to proficiently and fluently read stories themselves above a 1st grade reading level-and these were students in the third grade up to fifth graders. This was a problem! After much research, I found that the problem they had with reading was that they lacked mastery of phonics and these students had many gaps with specific skills in phonics, such as reading words with long vowels and reading words with consonant blends. After using remedial reading programs, extensive worksheets (that didn’t really work), and outdated Language programs that bored my students, I saw a need that I just had to fill.
WHO Will This Program Benefit?
•Children who read 1-2 grade levels below their same age/grade peers.
•Need an alternate Phonics program, since worksheets and whole group instruction is not working for them.
•Children who have an IEP in the area of Reading
•Children who visit a Resource Classroom (with an IEP) for additional Phonics instruction to improve reading fluency
•Children who receive Intervention or RTI instruction due to below grade level gains in reading and/or phonics mastery.

MY Goal for You!
I look forward to hearing how your students, too, grow in their reading skills and master those reading gaps which most likely stem from lack of proficiency in phonics. Thank you for coming along and trying this program. I am sure you will love it too….the lesson plans, the games, and the stories! Enjoy! Be sure to check out MONTH 1 AND MONTH 2 as well at my store!
