I have written these phonic poems after being unable to find ANY that do not include tricky words which can crush struggling readers. My phonics knowledge and teaching reading experience are combined here to create the perfect workbook for new readers. Build confidence quickly. Confidence builds skill.
Now updated to include Letter and A4 formatting.
This HUGE Phonic Poetry Workbook covers the following sounds:
ea, oi, a-e, i-e, u-e, o-e, e-e, aw, are, ur, er, ow, ai, oa, ew, ire, ear, ure and tion.
Do you have a split class? Do you have children who are struggling to grasp reading and lack additional support in the classroom? Do you find reading schemes unsuitable for these children? Books with tricky non-decodable words in them can crush a struggling child's confidence. They just don't get it, do they?
I have put together this interactive workbook for children to work through as you teach each new sound. As a private tutor I see exactly what the children CAN'T do. So many are left behind! Those little gaps now mean HUGE problems down the line, so don't let that become a problem for your pupils. I have many older pupils who are still not secure on these early sounds and are suffering because of it.
The beauty of this workbook is that the children can complete it pretty much independently. As long as they are reminded of the sound they are learning, they can get on with this alone. Perfect for groups as the children can work together on one sound but go at their own speed.
The focus here is on the SOUND. It is repeated throughout the poems that I have written (believe me, I searched high and low, there is nothing like this), the sound is then reinforced through the worksheets. I get the children to 'hunt' out the sound with highlighters, special pens, magnifying glass ... whatever it takes! This all reinforces the sound, without them even realising it. They can even cut sounds out and physically make words (some kids really, really need to do this).
Included in this workbook of phonic poems (perfect for remediation and struggling children as well as those starting to learn to read) are:
For each sound - two copies of a poem (written by me and focusing on the phonic sound), one copy illustrated, one plain. Five different worksheets.
These are written heavy on the sound and light on other words to really help children learn these sounds. I use them with struggling readers and beginners. They are perfect.
Please see the preview for a full list of contents and samples of my work. I also have a previous phonics book for earlier sounds.
