The science LIT in my building gave me this idea and I put a little spin on it. I used this to as our introductory science lesson at the beginning of the year. First I asked them to picture a scientist in their minds and draw a picture. Next we compared pictures and listed what was similar and different about our pictures. The next day we discussed what we already knew about the different types of scientists there are (this was a little difficult for them so I included a list that we compiled). They then decided which type of scientist they would want to be and why. Finally, they answered the age-old question: Can a student be considered a scientist? Note: I shrunk each of these documents down so that they could be glued into their science notebooks.
