Place Value Mats are so helpful for those students still developing the concept of decimals. I upgraded these for my game Superhero, so thought I should put them up because they are so useful.
I developed the game Superhero a long time ago. Originally it was to develop the concept of hundreds, then thousands, so it was a natural progression to add decimals when the need arose. Now there are three versions and I have adapted each one to American terminology as well (units instead of ones).
If you keep some of these handy in intervention you can use the mat for vertical algorithms when place value is an issue with a student. I use wipe off crayons and the mats are laminated, so I can use them over and over.
Feel free to download and use and if you have any students who still need concept development I recommend the Superhero game for consolidation. By playing, saying the numbers and comparing numbers I have found place value concepts are better understood, especially the property of zero.
