Reviewing your students over plant cell organelles doesn’t have to be intimidating or overwhelming. My students love this activity and I bet yours will too!
Your students will be having fun and learning as they play the part of a student aide for Dr. Ella Mental. Although brilliant, she has a terrible time remembering names. Your students correct her notes and change her ridiculous organelle names to the correct ones. This engaging activity makes the concept of animal cell organelles easy for you and fun for your students!
This worksheet works well as review after you’ve introduced the concept of organelles. However, I have used this worksheet as an introduction with my Pre-AP classes. I allow students to use their smart phones or Chromebooks to research the organelles, which seems to add a little challenge for my classes that tend to move faster.
This worksheet is a perfect way to engage students! I’ve found that my students really benefit from the activity, the QR codes, and crossword, especially around test time. This lesson incorporates various activities to engage multiple learning styles.
A full answer key for all pages is included along with teacher suggestions.

Students play the part of student aide to Dr. Ella Mental, who is terrible with names. Students must correct her mistakes naming the organelles. Definitions are correct, but organelle names are silly.
Organelles covered: cell membrane, cytoplasm, golgi body, nucleolus, cell wall, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, chloroplast, nucleus, vacuole, lysosomes, mitochondria.

HOW I’VE USED THE LESSON IN MY CLASSROOM
I use this worksheet as a key component of my cells unit and for further review of plant cell key vocabulary.
Approximately one to two class periods in length (as a point of reference, I teach a 50-minute class). I generally have my students complete the worksheet as classwork and I allow them to use their smartphones to research answers. If we have time I allow students to do the crossword puzzle as classwork. I like to use the half sheet crossword puzzle and add it to my students’ interactive notebooks. I find the definitions in the crossword puzzle to be very useful for review before test time. However, this lesson would work well in any classroom that covers animal cells and their organelles.
