Student analyze poems in multiple contexts: theme, content, literary traits, author's purpose, and form. Can be used with SHAMPOID and REDSCRAM traits (SHAMPOID = Simile, Hyperbole, Alliteration, Metaphor, Personification, Onomatopoeia, Idiom, Dialogue); (REDSCRAM = Rhyme, Euphony, Dissonance, Syllabication, Consonance, Repetition, Assonance, Mood)
Use a poem of varying difficulty per week to teach both the literature traits and the aspects of the organizer web. By year's end, students will be fully independent analyzing complex poetry texts.
See Poetry Fair Project Rubric for an excellent year-end school- or grade-level-wide celebration of poetry.
