This is a super fun way to work on rhythm with your class. You need playground balls
(I use big, colorful rubber balls from the toy store) and lummi sticks to teach this lesson.
The rhythms go nicely with the 1970's pop song "Hot Buttered Popcorn". They are presented in three colors, to go with the form of the song, which is AABBCAABB. The students read the rhythms, play them on their ball "drums", then the perform the ball routine. You can point out that the rhythms match the ball routine notation. Compare and contrast the sounds. Have half the class play the drums and half do the ball routine.
The visuals work well and are interactive, as the rhythm boxes are covered in popcorn. You can reveal one section at a time by tapping.
Due to copyright law, I cannot include an mp3 of the tune here. However, you can purchase your own to play or use the youtube link that is provided.
