*kids take turns pulling a piece of popcorn from the bag. He/she must read the word/phrase out loud to the group. After it is read correctly, the child can keep the popcorn piece.
*the game continues on like that with each child taking turns.
*when a piece of popcorn with the word “POP!” on it is picked, the player must put all his/her popcorn pieces back in the bag EXCEPT the “POP!” piece. Keep that out of the bag and set it to the side (out of play).
*the game goes on until all popcorn pieces are removed from the bag.
*To determine a winner (if interested), each player counts his/her popcorn pieces. The player with the most pieces wins.
“POP!” is fun to play in small groups or with a partner. It can be used with a small teacher group, RTI group, or even sent home to play (for homework). The kids enjoy reviewing/practicing skills with this engaging game.
Note: If you want students to focus on a small set of words, copy one page 3 or 4 times. This allows for repeated practice and a more intense focus.
