Help students learn POR and PARA through SYMBOLS and EXAMPLES, not just a list of rules.
Explain to students that just like when they learned to ride a bike, these training wheels will help reduce stress, scaffold their learning and build confidence when they encounter authentic texts in Spanish.
Students use these "training wheels" while engaging in interpretive reading and listening mode, interpersonal speaking and writing mode, and presentational speaking and writing mode.
This quick reference guide uses 2 symbols to help students acquire the "feel" for the right choice of por or para until they begin to learn the collocations or the idiomatic expressions.
I have found that this infographic helps diverse types of learners by meeting different needs.
This can further help students become independent learners and let their brain/mind figure out the "rules".
My inspiration came from my background in immersion programs, Krashen, Vygotsky, VanPatten.
This helps make input more comprehensible. As well, it aids students in the zone of proximal development, albeit in a different way.
