This card game is designed to help review r-controlled words in the context of sentences. Each card is labeled with the phonics skill which makes it easy to mix and match card sets.
For 2-4 players
The goal: Be the player with the most cards at the end of the game.
Setup: Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a single pile.
*On each player’s turn pick up the top card, read the sentence, and keep the card.
*If a player picks up a pounce card, they can take all of one player’s cards.
*Play continues until the entire deck of cards is used.
*When cards run out, all players count the number of cards in their hands (including pounce cards). The player with the most cards is the winner.
*Use cards as fluency practice with pounce cards removed.
*Use cards as a grammar review. For example, choose some cards for students to use to find subject/predicate or write the number of nouns or verbs in each sentence.
