Take a ride on a fun board game to learn the spelling and meanings of common prefixes found at the beginning of some words.
Land on a star and you say any prefix and give its meaning to stay put. Land on a prefix - say a word that has that prefix at the beginning of a word to stay put - otherwise go back to where you started from. Land on a hot air balloon and go for a ride forward or backwards. Print out on A4 or enlarge to A3 for a bigger play board.
Print out prefix and meaning list for support and children can add new prefixes that are discovered to their list. Change the board game rules to extend or support student abilities. Write the words, say the words, spell the words out loud etc. Name two prefixes, name three. Look prefixes up in the dictionary to discover new ones. Look up on the internet to extend prefix lists.
