I have upgraded this game to include five games with prefixes and five games with suffixes. See the PREVIEW for the word lists that I have used.
SWITCHEROO has a strategy element to it, so as well as reading the words (and matching prefixes or suffixes), the players are thinking of how to win.
At Phase 6 my learners have mastered all the phonic elements of previous phases and the focus is on vocabulary development, morphology, blending syllables, fluency and comprehension. You see the players deconstructing words into syllables and blending them sub-vocally. I think it's just perfect for this stage of literacy development. And, the magic is, that they do it over and over because they love playing. It's that repetition that builds fluency and fluency aids comprehension, and for some kids it's just what they need.
This is a great game for consolidation and I would add it to a Literacy Centre once my Intervention Group had learned to play.
