**This is a primary version of my popular Newspaper Unit. It can be used as a whole class activity, small groups or for enrichment**
This is a HUGE Newspaper Unit that I have not only created but implemented, specifically in my RTII class and also for enrichment during centers and writing. My students loved it and got so much out of it! There is a lot that is included and I did my best to mention it all below. You can also download the preview for free to get a better idea although there is more that you cannot see.
~There is currently ONE version of a kid-friend newspaper that is hot dog folded. I will soon be adding a second version that is folded hamburger and more like a 'traditional' newspaper.
~Brief Outline and Overview of how to spend each day (shortened version as well)
Creating a Newspaper Packet:
~12 page packet for starting up and learning about newspapers. Has table of contents, goes through purpose, sections etc. that are found in newspapers. Also has a glossary of newspaper words for students to refer back to.
Reporter's Notebook Packet:
~25 page packet for students to record all of their 'assignments' in. Has table of contents, has five different assignments as well as a spot to record any optional assignments they pick up.
~12 page packet of 8 different optional assignments that students can do such as a sports article, poll, reviews and more! This was my students absolute favorite part :)
~Talk Like a Reporter Worksheet
~Newspaper Rubric to put on each handed in assignment
~Text Feature Poster to place in room
~Purpose of a Newspaper poster
~Star Reporter Incentive/Behavior Poster Template
~8 Posters describing kinds of articles to display in the room
~19 Fun and colorful vocab words to display in the room for student reference
~Idea booklet cover (4 covers on one 8.5X11 page). Just cut blank pages and staple to give students their own reporter's notebook!
I also invited in a local reporter to speak with my kids after we went over the basics and before we started writing. This really inspired them and the reporter was happy to come in!
There's a lot included and if you have any questions and/or find mistakes, needs something added, etc please just message me and I'll fix it or try to add it.
