I created this product to help you sail through How To Writing.
It has EVERYTHING to take you from Start to Finish.
Your students are likely to come up with lots of ideas for How to Writing, but they may not be the ideas that can be explained in 4 simple steps.
In these pages, you will find topics for your students to be able to master How to Writing! Each set of pages introduces a topic to familiarize them with it. This includes a prewriting activity. The next activity is the writing activity. They will take the prewriting activity and expand upon it.
Finally they finish up with the “Finishing Up” page where they copy their sentences onto the final draft page. They have the opportunity to change the title and the transition words at this time. Since you will model one entire set with them, they will be able to complete all of the steps more easily.
To begin, you will use the included Mini Lesson that will walk your students through the entire HOW To Process of Carving a Pumpkin. While the Mentor Text has a bit of a Fall Theme... you can definitely talk about carving a pumpkin anytime of year. And there are 9 other topics to choose from, if this one doesn't suit you. :)

Here's the format:
A First Look cut and paste pages are a simple way to introduce a How To Writing idea. Students will put the steps in order and simply jot down a few words about the steps involved. These pages are meant to simplify the How To writing process so that it will be manageable for your students. Words have been added to help student with spelling as they move through the writing process.
After putting the steps in order and jotting down a few words, students will take those same words and make them into a descriptive sentence or two. Students are to add details such as adjectives to these two sentences. These sentences should also be edited to be ready for the final product. Transition words, correct spelling when possible, capital letters and punctuation specifically.
The “Finishing Up” page gives students the opportunity to give their work a different title and to change the transition words if they would like. They will copy their final sentences about their topic onto the page, making sure they are using capitalization, punctuation, transition words, correct spelling and their best handwriting.
Using the “Glue Finished Product” page, students will glue their “Finishing Up” page above the picture boxes. Students will illustrate and color the 4 steps involved in their project. You could also glue a piece of construction paper to the back for a great presentation!

Have plenty of copies on hand. Once they've finished one, they can start another.
Only the teacher copies require color printing and laminating.
