Product Description
Students will learn about the early history of immigration to the US and reasons why people immigrate. They will learn to appreciate how immigrants have shaped our country through their diversity, customs, and traditions. And, students will appreciate the differences and heritage of their classmates. After researching immigration, students will understand how our nation was built on immigration. This unit includes, reading, social studies, writing, and technology skills. At the end of the unit, students will share their research and family heritage story.

This PBL unit incorporate 21st Century skills with challenging, engaging, and creative activities. There are lots of opportunities for differentiation, cooperative learning, and technology integration.

- Vocabulary Memory Game PowerPoint activity
- Famous immigrants with graphic organizer research activity
- Interview questions for family member about heritage. Or, this can be about another person who has immigrated.

- Words describing immigrants PowerPoint
- PicCollage activity: Adjectives describing immigrants
- If I Were an Immigrant writing activity
- Video interview using the app DoInk
- Compare and contrast immigration Then and Now
- Heritage paper doll
- Passport – fun for your bulletin board or for project presentations
- Suitcase and camera writing activity (added for extra writing or poem)
- World map to mark country of family origin
- Google Map activity
- Reflections writing activity throughout the project
