This is a project that can be used at several different levels to culminate a Preterite vs. Imperfect unit in Spanish class. This file contains a three page handout to give to the students and includes instructions, resources, a rubric, and a graphic organizer to begin brainstorming.
The project is simple: tell me a story. Students have the option of either thinking of something that really happened to them or coming up with a fictional story (I typically ask students who choose this option to make it realistic fiction so that the vocab they are using is actually applicable in their everyday lives).
Students then spend time crafting sentences and choosing whether to use Preterite or Imperfect for each verb, selecting photos, and putting it all together into a PowerPoint. Students then tell their story to the class while showing the PowerPoint.
I enjoy this project because it forces students to put everything they know about Preterite vs. Imperfect into practice, yet it's open-ended and relevant to the students' lives.
