Apraxia Sets were developed from the necessity of needing low-pressure, highly-motivating and quick turn-taking activities to work with the growing number of preschoolers on my caseload who are diagnosed with apraxia. Hands-on manipulatives (ie: piggy bank and coins – whether the plastic toys or laminated paper images) increase motivation, while requiring only 2 target productions per ‘turn,’ reduces the pressure on these kiddos (who we often find are VERY sensitive to their speech difficulties.)
By disguising their speech therapy work as FUN, the success rate has been PHENOMENAL!
