Page 3 of 4 (see other 3 pages). I used this packet for novel studies for Shiloh, Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, Mouse and the Motorcycle, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Because of Winn Dixie, Old Yeller, Babe, etc. The following reading skills are included: character, setting, problem, author's purpose, prediction, solution, text-to-text/text-to-self/test-to-world connections, grammar hunts, point of view, cause and effect, inference, drawing conclusions, main idea, response to literature, vocabulary/context clues, summarization, sequence, plot, fact and opinion, compare and contrrast, genre, visualization, questioning, & recommendation/persuasive. The packet takes about 2 weeks to do (4 skills a day) after reading a couple of chapters a day (we read 20 novels a year and do these every 2 weeks). I am a third grade teacher...but many 2nd-8th grade teachers have used this in my school system. This was created by me. My students' reading scores INCREASED tremendously after doing this packet (and only this) with my chapter book units!
