This activity is perfect to use the first week of school. It's an ice breaker, plus you'll be using the result long after this crazy first week! Each student will get their empty "pail of pals" and you, the teacher, will get the "teacher tools" page. Each time you call out a task that corresponds to a number, students have to find someone that completes that task, and they fill in each other's names on that number of the pail. For example, if john and mike are partners for number 4, john writes mike's name into his #4 and vice versa for mike! Once students have completed this activity, you can laminate their pails, and tape them to their desks or a frequently used binder, and right away you have 8 partners for each student! So when you need the students to break off into partners, you can call out a number 1-8 on their Pail and they can find their partner!
This activity also helps students get to know one another!
