Open-ended Math projects challenge students to come up with different solutions to problems - there is no one right answer.
In this project students must help the Easter Bunny purchase enough paint to finish painting his eggs for Easter delivery. In a 4-step problem solving process, students will decide how many eggs of specific patterns to paint, calculate how many ml of paint per egg and then per total eggs is required, work out how many cans of paint are needed and then find out the total cost for their plan.
Concepts covered include: addition, subtraction and multiplication as well as conversion of milliliters to liters. Critical thinking is required!
My class loves open-ended projects and are always asking for more. I hope you enjoy them too. There are several other types of open-ended project available in the store. If you are unfamiliar with this type of learning you may want to look at the freebie project Terrific Tortoise to see what an open-ended project looks like.
