I use this packet to teach my 2nd graders all about the amazing little Painted Lady butterflies. They are great to use in the classroom when teaching life cycles because they have a very fast life cycle!
-I project the 9 colorful photographs onto my classroom whiteboard. Each tells an interesting fact about the insect
-Then we look at real Painted Lady butterfly caterpillars, then pupae, then adults- I have an observation worksheet for each of the 4 stages of their life cycle (egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), adult and one worksheet depicting all 4 stages of metamorphosis.
I order the caterpillars from Insect Lore and I keep them in my classroom so my students can watch them pupate, emerge as adults, then lay eggs again. We release the adults in the spring.
Your kids will love learning about this amazing little butterfly!!
