This lesson uses visuals to encourage the identification of sensory details in a setting.
It is one in a five-part series I use to teach narrative writing. My method is called SCEDS and includes one lesson for each letter in the mnemonic (Setting, Character, Emotion, Dialogue and Sensory Details sprinkled throughout).
These lessons are so engaging that every single student participates, and even the most reluctant writers share their writing with the class. My theory for struggling writers is "Give them the words, then they will write." These lessons "give" them the words.
