Versatile informational texts with accompanying literal and higher order thinking questions (extended responses) that allow for teaching close reading as well as differentiation. My "A Brief History of Punctuation" text is paired with my new "Fun with Punctuation" text. While both texts can stand alone, they are intended to be read together and used in conjunction with formative assessment materials that mimic CCSS and AIR essay-type response items. A scaffolded writing frame is provided for less-able writers. Multiple choice items are, also, included. Great as a stand-alone lesson, substitute teacher lesson, or as part of a larger unit.
