Product Description
This is a paired passage essay assignment that can be used with a literature unit that focuses on Facing Danger. The stories I use with this assignment are "Three Skeleton Key," "Rikki-tikki-tavi," "The Wreck of the Hesperus," the teleplay "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," and the novel The Cay. You can use any stories you like that go along with the facing dangers motif. This essay requires students to write about two characters from two different texts. Both characters need to have faced a dangerous situation. One character must have responded in a brave and courageous manner, and the other character must have either made a huge mistake or acted pitiful in some way. This assignment comes with an assignment sheet, outline for prewriting, and a reference sheet for how to write the essay.
