This paired passages resource contains two sets of paired passages. Each set covers two passages with similar overall topics, but one text is fiction, and the other text is nonfiction.
Set A - Both passages have the same overall topic of swimming safety. The fiction story tells of a child who is swimming with his or her uncle. The uncle is not following swimming safety rules. The nonfiction text shares information about general swimming safety.
Set B - Both passages have the same overall topic of fishing. The fiction story tells of a girl fishing with her dad, and the nonfiction text provides information about fishing.
The paired passages and comprehension questions can be used in a variety of ways, including whole group instruction, independent practice, small group reading instruction, reading centers, and even homework.
