"this was a great resource to use to help students prepare for state testing where they would have to write a essay comparing two or more pieces of literature. It helps when test prep is becoming boring and you need to use an interesting topic. "

Description

Comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic can be really overwhelming for students. This resource offers paired passages, anchor charts, writing prompts, and graphic organizers to help students break down this essential skill.

Paired passages are connected by a shared topic, theme, or literary element. This resource features a step-by-step guide in teaching paired passages, plus an anchor chart and list of mentor texts to model comparing texts.

As a reading specialist, I know my students learn more when they are engaged in the material. This set of 18 paired passages were specially designed for reluctant readers and feature fun topics like sharks, volcanoes, and fast food.

This set of paired passages will grow your students as they make text-to-text connections, boost their writing skills, and build background knowledge.
