Product Description
This lesson pairs the short story "The Fan Club" by Rona Maynard and nonfiction passages about cyberbullying. Students read through and discuss the story that Maynard wrote when she was a teenager (link to story provided in the notes section of the ppt) and analyze the theme and motives of the characters through engaging activities like creating an Open Mind Portrait of the characters to "get in their heads" and Role Play. These activities lead to a rigorous Socratic Discussion prompt and Text-Dependent Written prompts. Next, students are asked to give their opinions on cyberbullying and read nonfiction articles (link to site included in notes section of ppt).
