Description

Do your students struggle with reading and responding to paired text and paired passages? Mine certainly do! I created this resource to scaffold and differentiate my paired passage instruction and assessment.

This paired text resource contains 10 sets of differentiated and scaffolded paired text practice at multiple levels.

I created this resource to specifically support my students with comprehending and analyzing paired texts and passages and responding to questions that require synthesis from both texts/passages.

This resource is differentiated in two ways. The passages are available at two levels and the response pages are available at three levels.

Passages

The texts are short (paragraph in length) and focused to allow the students to practice working with a variety of paired texts and question types without sacrificing instruction time with extended reading.

The texts are available on two different levels, Level 1 for the lowest level and Level 2 for the highest level. Each passage is labeled with the level in the upper left corner.

Responses

The responses are available on three different levels of support. Levels are labeled on the response sheets in the upper right corners.

Level 1: Think-Aloud Prompts and Sentence Stems

Level 2: Think-Aloud Prompts

Level 3: No Support

Organization

The sets are organized with the set number in the upper right corner of each page.

This includes informational and literature texts. The informational text topics are World War I, World War II, The Great Depression, Earthquakes, and Honey Bees.

Skills include theme, point of view and perspective, inferences, text structure, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect, viewpoint, main idea, summarizing, and integrating information.
