Paired Texts targets reading comprehension using two different texts, (one fiction and one nonfiction) on the same themed topic. This 81 page packet is loaded with 8 passages (4 sets of paired texts) including 2 historical, 2 scientific, 2 biographical, and 2 technical pieces. Each passage has comprehension questions for each which target a variety of reading strategies including main idea, theme, cause and effect, and more. There is also a vocabulary practice page for each set which includes Latin/Greek roots, synonym antonym, matching and more. There is a double sided paired text worksheet that asks question requiring the student to refer to both texts, to analyze, and combine information to formulate answers. Plus three writing prompts (narrative, expository and persuasive) for each set. Rigorous for sure, but absolutely engaging topics your kids will enjoy!
Specifically, this set includes:
8 Double Sided Passages with a total of 4 paired texts
Revolutionary War Spy Messages
School Teacher Spy
Kangaroo Gets a Pouch (Aborigine Legend)
Astronaut Miller’s Journal
My Dad, the Skywriter
Vocabulary page for each set (total of 4)
Double Sided Paired Text Questions for each set (total of 4 = 8 pages)
Narrative, Expository and Persuasive Writing Prompts for each set (total of 12 pages)
I always make what I need for my classroom and this is no exception! I love this set and think you will too. I think it’s really hard as a teacher to find materials that are well–suited as paired texts, while having the supplemental components all in one place. To me, this is a real time saver for busy teachers, while being an effective tool at the same time!
