Students look at a figure and determine the type of angles in the figure as adjacent, non-adjacent, complementary, supplementary, linear pair or vertical angles. Some figures will fall into more than one category.
The purpose of this activity is to get students to focus not only on the appearance of the figure in the diagram, but on the information presented. Students will be presented with information that is contrary to the appearance in the figure. For example a pair of angles looks like a vertical angles, but they are labeled as 47 and 46 degrees.
