This is meant to be a workshop lesson on how life on Earth developed and changed during the Paleozoic Era. It was designed to be used with my other units on the Geological Time Scale, but can be used independently as well.
During the mini-lesson you will remind students of the events of the Precambrian Era that made complex life possible during the Paleozoic Era. The working portion of the class will involve students reading a one page reading passage on the Paleozoic Era, completing a table on distinct characteristics of each period, and (if you have created timelines) illustrating the Paleozoic Era portion of their group timelines. Finally, the debriefing will consist comparing the timeline illustrations and building an anchor chart with information life during the Paleozoic Era. Two assessments are also included for measuring student understanding of the Paleozoic Era.
The module does not include an extra step for re-teaching or for students who are absent for the class instruction. Students can use the reading passage and chart at home if necessary.
Please Note: This product is meant to be used in conjunction with Geologic Time Scale
and Precambrian Era
