Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak is a 2020 docuseries on Netflix that examines the efforts of those who are trying to prevent and/or stop the next global outbreak. This series examines the 1918 Influenza outbreak, coronavirus (i.e. SARS and MERS ), avian flu, and swine flu.
Episode 2, Pandemic is Now, examines some reasons behind people being against mandatory vaccinations, issues at the U.S. border with providing the flu vaccines, and the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It also discusses the progress on the universal vaccine study. This docuseries would be beneficial in a Science, Health, or Global Issues course.
My documentary guide contains 30 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience. The video's runtime is 50 minutes but I would allow for at least an hour. There is a question for students to answer after the video and you may want to allow time to discuss and debrief. The series is rated TV-14. There is one cuss word and I make a note of when to prepare for it.
