Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak is a 2020 docuseries on Netflix that examines the efforts of those who are trying to prevent and/or stop the next global outbreak. This series examines the 1918 Influenza outbreak, coronavirus (i.e. SARS and MERS ), avian flu, and swine flu.
Episode 3, Seek, Don’t Hide, focuses on individuals and their hunt to help track the virus in people and animals. We follow one man and his journey testing bats, one woman and her tracking of ducks, and a door-to-door initiative in India. This docuseries would be beneficial in a Science, Health, or Global Issues course.
My documentary guide contains 25 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience. The video's runtime is 50 minutes but I would allow for at least an hour. There is one question after the video for students to answer. You might also want to set aside some time to discuss and debrief. The series is rated TV-14. I have included notes on the answer keys for moments to pause the film or additional information to add.
